Joe Chiocca (Vocals/Guitar) Joe has been a professional musician for over 15 years. He discovered the guitar while enrolled in a seminary high school - yes, our Joe once thought he would be a priest. Luckily for his fellow band members (most of who would not make it as men of the cloth and a few who would be struck by lightning for even trying), he decided his real gift was strumming. Papa Joe starting playing with classic rock bands while in college in Erie, PA. An ad in the city paper led him to the Hollywood Howlers and an ongoing 10 year relationship with bassist Marc Kannenberg. Joe also played Blue Steele; a MD based blues band that won acclaim as the first runner up in the 1997 DC Blues Society Showcase. Joe's blues influences include the Three Kings, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, and Hound Dog Taylor. Having recently discovered Jerry Garcia's playing was like discovering a long lost soul brother. Joe's improvisational passion and wide rage of musical knowledge takes each song and crafts it with his own energy. Joe doesn't just play a song - he plays with it. Marc Kannenberg (Bass) Marc is the scary-smart super-kind bass backbone of JCB. Nothing gets under his skin and nothing escapes him either. His closed eyes and laid back groovy-ness fool you, he is aware of everyone in the crowd, every funky beat and the way Kim giggles when he slaps the bass. Marc currently plays with Joe in another band called Tone Popes and also plays occasionally with Baltimore based band The Barnburners. Corey Lanum (Keys) With a musician and a record store manager as parents, Corey started playing the piano at age 5. Corey has played with bands in many different genres, from jazz trios to funk jams. Corey comes to the Joe Chiocca band from Alec Gross and the Districts, a local alt-country band, and before that, Undercover, a Maryland-based wedding band. His influences range from Stevie Wonder to Chuck Leavell, to Ben Folds. John David Coppola (Alternate Bass) A native Washingtonian, John began his musical career on keyboards at age 7, receiving several regional and national awards. In high school he moved on to the double and electric bass joining the top 40 group Ignition. After earning a degree in photography from American University, he began performing with the original blues project Watch Your Step! John recently completed a two-year/300 show international tour with the surf guitar master Danny Morris and the Danny Morris Band. In addition to The Joe Chiocca Band, he currently can be found performing regularly with Shirkaday, The Rob Hornfeck Enterprise, and Judge Smith.
